October 19, 2009Yay, Horns!The 'Horns happily won the Red River Rivalry over Oklahoma. It was a pretty good game, and close 'til the end; the final score was 16-13, including exactly one touchdown on each side. It wasn't quite as good as the game against Texas Tech, though, I thought, though, because Texas' O wasn't quite there to play, as they say, in the first quarter, and Oklahoma's wasn't quite there to play in the last quarter. On Friday, I was hoping to catch Obama's speech at Texas A&M at College Station. A great Bill Clinton speech there during the primary opened my eye to some possibilities for extra entertainment. Texas A&M is as conservative as colleges get; plenty of Clinton's audience had gotta've grown up target shooting at images of him tacked to targets; yet, though the crowd started frosty, he owned them at the end. It was quite the performance. But I missed Obama's speech due to a combination of wrong CSPAN schedule and as bad a traffic jam as I've had here. SIGH! Seriously, the broken-down vehicles get moved out of the way faster in Austin than in any other city I've lived in - though, Baltimore was good, too. They have tow trucks dispersed all over the city, and they dispatch them fast. It took a big bus, twisted with a truck, all right in the middle of an intersection, to make me wait.
