March 07, 2008Friday open threadAnything that you feel the need to get off your chest? Posted by Todd Pearson at March 7, 2008 03:26 PMComments
Yeah. What's up with these "pocketless pita breads" I've been seeing in the grocery store? My question is simply " WHY?" Someone explain this to me. If I get normal pitas, with pockets, I can use them the same way as you use a "pocketless" pita. All you have to do is not open 'em up. But vice versa? Nope. I get the bad feeling someone is pissing on my back and telling me it's raining, that it's some sort of bakery gaffe or production economy masquerading as an innovation. Anyway it pisses me off. How's that for a pointless friday rant, pretty good, huh? Posted by: kritter at March 7, 2008 03:41 PMI will join the pointless rant contest. My entry is elevator etiquette. First, I'm sick of people insisting on getting into an elevator without allowing people to exit first. Second, I'm creeped out by people who stand with their backs against the side wall and stare at everyone else in the elevator for the whole ride. Third, anyone who is able-bodied and takes the elevator up or down one floor should be subject to public humiliation. Posted by: Todd Pearson at March 7, 2008 04:51 PMMcCain has a perfect opportunity the next couple of months while Clinton/Obama beat up on each other to get a running start he'll desperately need laying out his team and putting some Centrist meat on the bones of his tired, one dimensional, national security/McBush platform. How about raising the debate a couple of levels around the connectivity of globalization overcoming oppressive fundamentalist regimes and criminal terrorists? He could preempt Obama's empty unity and collaboration talk, all the far left big government solutions and far right fear mongering and attempts to legislate morality. Posted by: Dick Hanson at March 7, 2008 06:05 PMThree grumbles for the price of one! First: last-minute meetings. We found about TWO LONG meetings today just yesterday and the day before. Bye-bye, plans! And, I'll also grumble about the overload of junk mail and calls you get when you move into a new house. Do-not-call list, whazzat? We're also less-than-pleased with some companies we're already with trying to solicit us. When I was calling AT&T to let them know we were moving and schedule installation at the new place, they forwarded me without warning or explanation three times. All I knew about it was that there was a new voice, and I had to explain from scratch, and give my current phone#, despite having had to get it across alrady to a hopeless voice recognition system - no typing the # allowed. After all that, they wanted me to sign up for their special voice/TV/ISP deal, presumably so I could enjoy that kind of customer service even more. Daylight Savings Time. As far as I can tell, it not only does not accomplish its avowed purpose of reducing energy consumption, it apparently actually raises it. People have more daylight, so they drive move (usually shopping, which is why the biggest advocates are always the Chamber of Commerce). I confess that I like having more daylight in the evening. But there's nothing to keep me from starting work earlier and leaving earlier. (Nice to have that kind of job.) So my personal preference is irrelevant. And if we really have a concern about energy usage, why keep doing something that unnecessarily increases it? Posted by: wj at March 8, 2008 10:41 AM |
