Whoah! I am a little shaken by this. Matt Gonzalez, who I disagree with a lot, is one of my favorite politicians. His run for Mayor of San Francisco was inspiring. He is brutally honest, intelligent, articulate, and truly in it for the right reasons. This does a couple of things... first, it probably means Nader will nab the Green Party endorsement, as Gonzalez is a Green Party hero, and second, it brings validity to Nader's candidacy, which too many have passed off as an ego trip in my opinion. I think Obama is going to have to flank left to keep some of the most liberal Democrats at home after this. But the memory of the 2000 election will keep them from deserting Obama. Even if they think that there is no big difference between Obama and McCain (and how many thought that about Gore and Bush?), the risk will be seen as just too great.
