February 24, 2008Cranky Go HomeIf a vanity candidacy leaves the station without a cheering crowd to send it off, will it make a sound? Anti-corporate crank and gadfly Ralph Nader today announces he's going for an oh-fer-five: Ralph Nader is entering the presidential race as an independent, he announced Sunday, saying it is time for a "Jeffersonian revolution." Little test there. See if you agree with the sentiment before you review who said it. I know I agree. Nader's become an impotent scold. Even Huckabee forthrightly acknowledged his entry helps the GOP. And here's the thing... ...I'm always going to support the 1st amendment right of folks to speak their mind and support their pet issues. Nader makes a good case at least some of the time. But it takes an egomaniac to put his pet cause above the importance of selecting our next leader. Anyone who wants to mount an independent or 3rd party challenge ought to have enough respect for our nation's presidential choosing process to either show some serious viability (like what, at least 15% to 20% by springtime, right?) or get the frak out of the way. If your idiosyncratic take on what's most important for the nation doesn't get you any real traction, but you insist on hanging around anyway, you're just a petulant crank. A sideshow troll. And hey, I'm a cranky critter, but I'm not running, am I? Posted by Kranky Kritter at February 24, 2008 08:34 PMComments
Well, Nader could talk about this I mean, the idea of corruption is out there. Rezko gave money to former PLO spokesperson and Obama buddy, Khadili back in 2002. Why? Who gave money to Rezko who then was able to afford to ice the deal for Obama? I mean the guy was having serious finacial problems and under indcitment. I am curious about the ties to a former Saddam guy back in 2002 and more than one source suggests perhaps, this influenced Obama's postion on Iraq back then ---which was? And Nader can talk about lobbyist corruption or nuclear power corruption in Illinois. Perhaps the fear of Nader is not the votes he garners but the things he might say. Posted by: Maxtrue at February 26, 2008 11:16 AMIf anyone else bothers to read this thread, I'd like to remind them that this thread is not about Barack Obama, or Iraq. It's about Ralph Nader. I think he's largely wasting our time with this run. And like I said, I support everyone's first amendment rights, and the rights of anyone to run for the Presidency. But if you're a narrow spectrum candidate in terms of your platform, and you've run several times before and haven't received real traction, then additional attempts qualify as a vanity candidacy. I'd prefer not to undertake the petty action of expunging off-topic comments. Posted by: kritter at February 26, 2008 03:09 PM |
