Even More Of A Surprise

I didn't think it was possible for a day to have a bigger surprise than a man in power 50 years step down.

I was wrong. Yes, the Pakistani elections were honest. We know because Musharraf's party lost them bigtime.

Musharraf deserves praise for not rigging them. I must say, it's what I expected. Of course, it wasn't HIS election, not directly, but still, letting opposition parties win will make life much harder for them. You never saw that happen in Saddam's Iraq, the Soviet Union, or Hitler's Germany post-takeover.

This will help the situation in Pakistan alot, I think. As I blogged when Musharraf declared the State of Emergency, Musharraf as unchecked dictator was just making things worse, both for his own people and our own interests in countering terrorists.

It is a pleasant surprise. The turnout was suppressed due to the violence, but they still managed to beat Musharraf's party.

Yes, you were wrong. He stepped down from the military, Bhutto was killed by militants and by a bomb when her carrier would have saved her, Musharraf held free elections. So how much more will you be wrong about? I don't mean this in a rude way, because I think you have some great comments and threads. I mean this: The outcome the Democrats have been pressing for has now resulted in 1. Dems were wrong about Musharraf 2. New winners say Pakistan is a mess because Musharraf followed US policy. 3. They say like Obama does in Iraq, Militants and AQ require a political or non violent means to resolve and 4. US forces will never be allowed to operate in Pakistan.

Is Obama happy? Biden seems delighted. If this is not an absurd situation, what is? See what happens when you get what you wished for? So tell me your thoughts Jon, I would really like to know. What do Hillary and Obama think? When will media ask Obama now what to do about AQ in Pakistan? Ah, the questions that will not be asked until Obama wins the primary. Then I do hope Jon, that McCain forces out the answers to the sound of Democrats calling it a lynching.

Thanks for allowing me to vent.......And I will give you a pass on being wrong.

Willaim, now please explain why you are happy.

Max, this is exhibit A in proof your obsession. It's the max version of "to a man with a hammer everything looks like a nail."
To a man with an anti-Obama-obsession, every thread is about Obama.

I'm pretty sure this is a thread about Pakistan. If you could even just occasionally refrain from bringing every thread round to Obama's deficiencies, I think we'd all be pretty grateful. We could use the break, even if you can't.

Will, I agree that it's nice to see an actual election take place. Even Chavez had to take the backhand from voters. And Castro has stepped down. Dare we think that fake elections are losing some utility in the internet age, at least in some places? If it's indeed a trend, I approve. Of course, that happiness has to be tempered by the certainty that we're just minutes from global nuclear annihilation, right max?
