Clinton Campaign In Disarray?

It's hard to be sure with executive resignations like this, but it looks like there's sacrificial blood on the floor, in the form of campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle.

As I see it, so far in this campaign, the more nervous Clinton and her top campaign staff have been about Obama, the better he's done, as they've gotten nastier in public, switched more positions, and thus alienated more and more of the huge, big-tent coalition they started with.

This week is being VERY hard on the Clintons. In case you haven't seen it, Obama seems to've sewn up Maine in addition to yesterday's sweep, and her chances in the DC-area states this Tuesday have long been bad. Hillary isn't so long on stubbornness as her opponent, so it's hard on her campaign to soldier through this kind of ordeal.

I still think she has a good chance of winning in big-delegate Texas, but with that kind of mo against her, I think it could be close to her last win, in which case the convention won't be so suspenseful.

I've been fascinated watching rightie response to Obama. Most fear him because they see he's damned good. but most also love him because he seems to be fulfilling an old dream, beating the Clintons.

I don't think disarray applies so much as "fighting for existence". Problem with the Clinton campaign is that although they did a lot of groundwork they are up against a movement with momentum. If you want the evidence it is plain to see in the voter turnout. As for beating the Clintons I think Obama's real dream is to be President. Hillary is just in the way of his bulldozer. He had a real cordial relationship with Hillary, she campaigned on his behalf several years ago, helped raise money for him and gave him advice that he sought when he went to D.C.. I don't think she did a vodka drinking game with him like she did with McCain in Estonia a while back so they probably aren't drinking buddies but they aren't enemies either. Despite some of the minor controversies they really haven't gone after each other hammer and tong like you would see in a GOP vs. Dem campaign. For the most part it's been cordial. But they are both strong competitors and so they have to dust it up once in a while.
I don't think "fear" plays into this. That's an odd word to use and a loaded one as well. I do think Obama has to tread a little more carefully. I have heard women comment that the press is overly critical of Hillary while playing up the charismatic Obama and I heard one black woman on a talk show notes that women are the last N-word in America. Her terms, not mine.

It's odd that I haven't heard much about the gender/race implications of Maggie William's appointment. Perhaps it's not only an attempt to continue Senator Clinton's appeal to women voters, but also to appeal to blacks and particularly black women voters. If she can split the black vote, she takes away from Senator Obama.

Fascinating to see the maneuvering going on. Sad to see it has so little to do with addressing the problems that need to be addressed in the U.S. and each candidate's ability to do so.

She had a stinker of a campaign manager and switched.

Best for her would be Carville and rest of the old crew. But, she has to keep an arm's length from Bill's crew.
