Friday open thread

Super Bowl thoughts? Enjoying the right-wing freakout over McCain as much as I am? Predictions for Super Tuesday? New favorite band? The floor is open.

Personally, I am not sure whether I want the Patriots or the Giants to win. Part of me wants to see history. Part of me wants to see history denied.

Coulter and Malkin have both said that they would prefer Hillary over McCain. McCain Derangement Syndrome has taken off, but this time it is within the party. So funny.

Both women.

Go Evul Empah! I find them tons easier to root for, personally. Dunno why.

I've been busy reading about the Microsoft Yahoo hostile takeover proposal. I find expensive, stupid mistakes fascinating, somehow. And, as most net.opinion agrees, this is clearly one. Yahoo has no special technologies; MS only gets minority and unfaithful market share from it, which they can lose if they screw it up (and probably WILL slowly lose as they slowly screw it up, guessing from how their Hotmail takeover played out).

Personally, if Microsoft's bid goes thru, the first thing I do is close out my Yahoo mail account. It will be a major hassle, but it will be done. Not sure where I will set up the new one -- just that it won't be something run by Microsoft.

Which only supports Jon's characterization of an expensive mistake. When opinions run as strongly as they do about Microsoft, trying to buy market share is a losing proposition.

I say, Pats by 10-21.

I stuck with NY by 3 for the last week before Super Bowl. If you looked closely at their run, they hurt people. Their running backs crushed people. I thought the edge was going to get down to the sheer hitting and desire on NY's part.

What surprised me was the Giant's pass rush. I did expect the Giant's offensive line to hold and unlike others, I figured NY could score. I figured 30 to 37 or 27 to 24 NY. The lower score reflected a defensive game I didn't quite expect, nor did NE.

The task for NY was clear. Hold up NE receivers and pressure Brady while keeping their eyes open for the screens and quick slants. They did that well and hid their biltz better than NE did.

My thought: Belichick showed some arrogance. He simply dared NY to beat his well known game plan. He didn't figure anything new for the game and basically said go ahead and beat what we do every week. I think that was too conventional. He refused to roll Brady out or try more deception with screens or pitch-outs.

Despite perhaps the most amazing play in any Super Bowl, the Giants did have the emotional edge, hit harder and work better as a team. It is tough to go without a loss and be very angry come the last game. Belichick didn't have NE mentally ready, nor did he have option 2 and 3. I bet he approaches NY differently next year.

Kudos NE for a fantastic year. Perhaps one more game could break their 1 and 1 record on the year.

Congrats Giants for their amazing run and showing how tough defense usually decides the game. NE line simply wore out fast.

Tyree, Burress and Toomer out-caught NE. Giant running backs inflicted more pain than they received. Eli was cool and the Giants defensive line beat up NE. P.S. the incredible pass to Tyree was exactly where it had to be between two NE defenders. Most commentators didn't give "location" must praise. Anywhere else and Tyree doesn't catch it. Eli rolled right and threw a fairly long pass across his chest going back to the left. Simply amazing. Brady was not on target, but the pressure certainly took him off his game. Eli's one interception should have been caught and luck did side with NE, save Tyree's catch and a fumble recovery for NY.

New York delivered some Ravens/Steelers/Bears hitting. That was what I thought they might do after their trial by ice in Green Bay. NE hadn't played anybody really with quite the same agression. It proved the deciding factoras the lines gave NY their game long edge despite the close score.

I only hope Hillary shows the same resolve as New Yorkers today vote and watch the Giants parade in a drizzle.
