Open Thread: Coolest Internet Feature?

My favorite is easy Internet research. Arguments are regularly carried out in days on blog comment threads that previously would've taken series' of papers and conferences, and access to a research library on the part of each participant.

We're finally getting serious about house-hunting now that the kid begins to leave us enough spare time to look.

A fascinating evening with friends Friday. Just to set the stage: 4 people who have been registered Republicans for decades -- even though it is less than fashionable in these parts of northern California. All fiscal conservatives. No theo-cons, but all moderate (me) to staunch social conservatives.

The talk turned, at one point, to the current folly in Congress over Turkey and the Armenians. I remarked that at least the administration was trying to explain why the Congressional resolution was a bad idea. And the instant reaction from all three of the others was: "So what. Nobody believes a word those people say anyway." "Nobody" pretty clearly including all those present.

I confess that I was a bit startled. All of us are sufficiently independent-minded that we will criticize specific policies of anyone if we disagree with them. And do. But "nobody believes a word they say"? In all the years I have been around these people, I don't think I have heard them use that kind of language about anybody to the right of Senator Boxer. And not even most people to her left.

That IS interesting. I think we have bad leadership on both sides of the aisle....
