The Profesora and I are in the phase of exclaiming happily over the baby's every tiny little accomplishment. Today, retaining his toys from falling to the floor, tomorrow the International Spelling Bee, I tell you!

Those little accomplishments will add up to bigger ones, no doubt. Glad everything is within normal expectations. I'm assuming a good genetic head start for the little one......

Give me a few more weeks and I'll be ready for helping out with posts. (That's a warning to readers!!!!)

I found this the other day. I want every one who protested the influence of the Turkish military in resisting Gul to read this. Some of my Turkish friends think cries from the Western Left completely miss the Liberal Democratic boat and fail to understand Turkish politics. Be careful, they say, Democratic idealists might get what they wanted. And what was that again?

Also, I think checking out MEMRI is a good thing to do on a regular basis. Click on the last link and see why Iran thinks Tom and Jerry was a way for "Jews" to reform the "dirty mouse" image of the 19th century. And is Israel really expected to negotiate with Palestinians who think Islam (their version) will replace Liberal Democracy and purge the world of the AIDS-like virus of the Jewish people that presently controls the world?

If you don't know what our adversaries think, how can you argue against their position? Or even give up arguing?

Sorry, this is the link for MEMRITV. Click on this to see the items mentioned above.....

Let me just add something Simon posted at SF in regard to a thread Pat started. I don't wish to take this up right now, but I know that Simon has stated more than once that his opposition to abortion DOES NOT REST ON THE IDEA OF A HUMAN SOUL. I find his arguing above a bit strange.

I wonder if faith really has a place in deciding national policies when such faith is a particular interpretation of a particular religion that believes God inserts a human soul immediately upon creation through fertilization into the zygote.

To answer whether Centrists could produce a solution to the political problem of abortion requires (to me) 1. Deciding if "faith" has a deal breaking role in a Centrist or Moderate debate over abortion and 2. Would an argument that does not rely upon "human souls" be a rationally moral opposing argument to abortion? Such a "sanctity of human life" argument certainly carries rational and provable weight, yet the beginning of human life is quite different than the reality of a an Individual protected by the Constitution. I believe the idea that such an Individual's life begins when the fetus could sustain itself outside the womb, naturally (or about that time). The courts, rightly or wrongly seem to take the same position.

I am sure the subject will come up again, but I do wonder how faith in a literal interpretation of a particular religion holds much sway in determining whether abortion is murder as national or State policy. I am even more confused by moderate political thinkers allowing faith in improvable facts, to equate a zygote to a living person and thus prevent a rational solution to the political debate. Is reason without morality, or even the belief in God?

Again, this doesn't beg any answers now, but I hope at some point Centerfield might want to address this question of faith v reason.
