July 27, 2007Former Surgeon General Richard Carmona And Politicized ScienceWhat he said (hat tip, Instapundit). Posted by Jon Kay at July 27, 2007 01:30 AMComments
It may, indeed, be a fair point to accuse the Bush administration of politicizing science. But Richard Carmona isn't the person to make it. While I don't like anyone, Carmona included, distorting or denying the available science, I don't see how that disqualifies someone from criticizing another for doing the same, so long as that criticism is valid in and of itself. Sounds like ad hom to me. Another way to look at it is that if someone with a tendency to distort science finds someone else's distortion to be a problem, it must be a BIG problem. (Not that I actually believe that. It's equally invalid as the point above. I'm just pointing out that, once you start with faulty logic, you can get pretty much anywhere you want to go with it.)
