From Political Wire:

Quote of the Day

"El presidente de que?"

-- New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson's mother, quoted by the Chicago Tribune, when told by her son he was running for president. (Translation: President of what?)

The same university debates this topic. How Liberal would you have to be to offend; 1. The Regime 2. The Muslim Brotherhood (which controls media in Egypt) 3. Jihadist groups 4. Fundamentalist Clerics?

The latter group is responsible for much of the social behavior that targets the un-Islamic and un-male. The issue of censorship and intimidation is important however, if Liberty is to displace Religion as the motivating principle of the oppressed and disenfranchised.

Blogging is dangerous depending on the country.

Another example of violations of Muslim free speech (not to mention their natural right to bear arms) is this Saudi reaction to what appeared to be a Democratic reform petition signed by "human rights advocates". here

"Some of the detainees are indeed known to hold Islamist views and support the jihad in Iraq. Moussa Al-Qarni, for example, is considered "the legal ideologue of Al-Qaeda leader [Osama bin Laden]," while attorney Suleiman Al-Rashoudi was among the supporters of the November 2004 communiqué published by 26 Saudi intellectuals calling for jihad against U.S. troops in Iraq."

I think one can see that that different groups for different reasons influence the censorship of the internet and speech in general. Editors have been murdered in China, Russia and even South America.

Some Islamists champion human rights while clearly advocating violent Jihads and a Shura State. Read the petition carefully. It is a prescription for Religious control of Saudi Arabia. A decade ago this might have brought a Royal beheading. It is getting squeeze time for a number of Sunni regimes. There are real reformers and there are dubious activists fronting a more malicious seed.

I wonder what the table will look like when the powers meet in Iraq. If everyone is there next month, will a terrorist attack be more or less probable? Not everyone is a born martyr. I suppose Rice will lead the way. Negroponte is her back up.

WHQ, I wrote off Chilean Sea Bass long ago when they were supposedly being overfished. But they sure were tasty. ;-)

With no football, I'm basically rocking quietly in the corner in the fetal position. But there are some freakish athletes in this draft, including one John Wendling who can leap over a 66 inch hurtle with only three steps. The post says Adrian Wilson but it's actually Wendling.

Spring time is in the air. . .

It seems like we have a lot of smart people here so I have a couple of questions. Does anyone here run a distributed computing project on their computer? If you do, which one. I just recently installed the folding@home one. I'm interested in hearing pluses and minuses of the different programs. Thank you all.

Personally the folding one seemed more usefull than the prime numbers, or the SETI. Though I will admit complete ignorance of how protiens work.

Here's a post I made today for the wild cat section:

When NOT to Multitask

Heard about this story today while drivng the car and listening to the news radio show.

It seems that a man was multi tasking when his obvious download of tunes for his IPOD was interrupted by running into a Hummer. Guess what, he lost. Now cell phones while driving, I don’t know about. Drinking coffee or smoking a cigarette in the car, give me a break. Even having a Whopper, and trying to do it with one hand….. You’re pushing it buster. Using your laptop? WTF???? Sometimes you just have to appreciate Natural Selection. In that Spirit I would nominate this man, for selflessly improving our species by removing himself from our midst for a Darwin Award.
