February 15, 2007Shut Up?Here's an idea. Just for today, for one thread. Let's set aside our penchant for blathering. "What?!?!" You say. "How unblogospheric...." Well, popular mechanics has a lengthy essay with numbers crunch on alternative fuels. It's a good thing. All you have to do to learn some useful stuff is shut up and read it. Comments are open, so we can always gab later about it, right? Here's to silent enjoyment! Don't come back until you can talk to me about BioWillie! My fave hope is oil via the new trash->oil conversion techniques. No infrastructure to convert. But if biodiesel gets more volume faster, it could win, too. Not seeing much hope for anybody but the politicians and interest groups in the rest. And I like the idea of those solar films. If they can be made cost effective (no info on how feasible that is in the article, granted), that seems like a really cool, grassroots bottom up way of doing things. I dunno about those roofs made out of plants. Something about placing absorbent material on a roof seems like an invitation for trouble. But whoever can figure out a cost-effective way to turn the sun on my house's roof into electricity instead of into hot air that I have to use more electricity to cool back down gets my nomination for sainthood. Heck, the settlers in the frontier days made their entire homes out of sod. And yes, the grass grew on the roofs. Posted by: Tully at February 18, 2007 08:33 PM |
