...and there was much rejoicing!

The Boston Globe is reporting:

WASHINGTON --Senator John F. Kerry plans to announce today that he will not run in the 2008 presidential race, and will instead remain in Congress and seek reelection to his Senate seat next year, according to senior Democratic officials.

I think the main reason he's bailing is that he's afraid he'll lose his senate seat if he runs for President. From that standpoint, I almost wish he'd run for Prez again just long enough to make it possible that we here in MA could rid ourselves of him as well.

I heard the other candidates sucked all the oxygen out of the funding community and Theresa told him his allowance wasn't going to be boosted, but it was just a rumor.

Ha! Or, he just realized how hopeless his chances are, after his head shrunk down to reality, that is.

I held my nose and voted for him in 2004. But if the Dems had nominated almost anyone else, they might have won.

Something to remember as we go back into the quadrennial Circus is that many people run knowing they have zero chance of winning the nomination. They're "playing for chips" and a seat at the table in the Big Game, not seriously trying to reach the White House. Instead they do it for the boost in campaign coffers, for added power in the party, to create stalking-horse situations as a favor to other candidates or factions, to line up factions into coherent blocs which will be handed over to the favored, to build up a power base they can use to leverage out future goodies from either the party or the new admin (depending on who wins), to get some swing at the convention, and so forth.

So when you catch yourself shaking your head and saying "What was (s)he thinking?", try to remember that the game is not anywhere NEAR that simple.

You mean Kucinich doesn't have a legitimate shot? Shucks.
