Iowa poll

Yeah, I know it is early to get sucked into the horse-race coverage, but I can't resist posting these early Iowa poll results:

Democrats
John Edwards 22%
Barack Obama 22%
Tom Vilsack 12%
Undecided 11%
Hillary Clinton 10%
Al Gore 7%
John Kerry 5%

Republicans
John McCain 27%
Rudy Giuliani 26%
Undecided 22%
Mitt Romney 9%
Newt Gingrich 7%
Condi Rice 4%

Whatever happens, the choice should be better than we had in 2004.

I am sort of surprised that Vilsack is so far back... If Edwards and Obama come out of Iowa with a victory, Hillary will be on her heels and must win New Hampshire. How can Obama not run with these kinds of numbers?

Matthew;

Well who wants to vote for a pickle!?......oh that's Vlaseck.

Have them all go a round with Colbert, then we'll see. It's just too early and too many factor once Congress begins.

Rudy Giuliani - I don't see him winning the nomination.

Newt Gingrich - no way

And I don't know if Republicans hear what McCain is selling. He faces about the same battle as Hillary.

Vlaseck doesn't rhyme with Ballsack.

Merry Christmas.......Let's hope things are peaceful through the first of January....

It's early but, I really like that poll. I'd like it even better if Obama was way ahead of Edwards.

Edwards in the lead... the democrats are already well on their way to losing the election in the primaries, I see.

All you need to know about John Edwards is that he is/was an ambulance chasing trial lawyer... in other words, he seeks person gain regardless of the consequences for everybody else. That's not exactly an ideal trait for a President, in my opinion. Isn't that basically what the Bush-haters say is the problem now?

There's a sophisticated analysis. Okay, Edwards is out, who's next?

Posted by: Bobby at December 26, 2006 12:40 PM

Richardson, but he's hanging back right now. Says he'll announce his decision in January.

Bobby: I'll bite. Here is my "all you need to know" guide.

Obama: Ears are too big.
Vilsack: People will think that he is a pickle.
Clinton: Um, she is a chick.
Gore: He won't be able to explain this picture taken a few months after the 2000 election.
Kerry: You are kidding, right?
McCain: The Manchurian Candidate.
Giuliani: Ugly divorce.
Romney: Um, he is a Mormon.
Gingrich: Arrogant and condescending.
Rice: Not married. What's up with that?

Seriously, I think that Edwards would be a strong candidate. Obama and Gore are the wild-cards on the Democratic side. If Rice were to run, she would be the wild-card on the Republican side, but she isn't going to run.

Obama should run after he has actually accomplished something, but I understand the timing of these things. If he doesn't run now and the Dems win, he is effectively out until 2012 or 2016, by which time people will be tired of the Dems. He would almost have to hope the Repub wins and fails. But we have had enough of learning on the job presidents.

I actually think Hilary would be a pretty good president, but she is too polarizing as a candidate.

As for the GOP, I hope a moderate wins so I don't have to fear the next 8 years if the election goes the wrong way. God help us if it was someone like Brownback (although it would probably be good for the Dems.)

Yeah, gotta live in fear. Could be real wrath of God stuff if the election goes the "wrong way." Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling. Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes. The dead rising from the grave. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria!

Sorry, alarmism stimulates my cynical sarcasm reflex. ;-)
