Warner Out

Governor Mark Warner will not be a candidate for President in 2008. This is pretty shocking. With his Forward Together PAC and his travels to Iowa and New Hampshire, I thought Warner was in for sure.

I was proud to have Mark Warner as my Governor for two years. He is an incredibly talented politician, a solid human being, and a centrist to the core. I have doubts given the Connecticut Senate primary that his party would have awarded him the nomination, but he would have made an excellent President. Other than possibly Barack Obama, if he runs, and Hillary, if she makes the right moves, the Democrats may have lost their best chance to beat either Giuliani or McCain.

He's eligable to run for Governor in '09 again. Given the "nutroots" of the Democratic party at present, as the Lamont-Lieberman race you cited illustrates, Warner might well be too moderate to be nominated in '08.

However, the grown-ups might be back in charge by '12, in which case, Warner would make a good challanger to President McCain.

Maybe Mathew's post will spark a discussion that my prior post didn't. IMHO, this is a huge disappointment for centrists looking for a (potential) home in the national Democratic party.

Total bummer. Months ago on this site I had predicted Mark Warner win the presidential election in 2009. He seemed unbeatable to me, unless Gore jumped in the race.

Wrong again.

The good news is that just two weeks ago I actually tried to find a political betting website that would let me put money on Warner to win. Good thing I didn't follow thru.

He might think Hillary and Barack Obama both have better chances. It's a little hard to spend alot of time and money on 3rd place.

After all, Warner is really only known regionally, and both Clinton and Obama are nationally known.

Yeah, but neither Hillary nor Obama are going to run for president.

Unless I'm wrong again, again.

Tell me it's not true. Mark warner was the best now it's going to se the same thing McCaine versus Clinton.
