September 21, 2006Grauniad Blog Comment on Darfur, SighThis is pretty despicable. Alot of UK Guardian blog commenters seem to feel that because Bush and Blair are working to discourage the Darfur Genocide that they must be against discouraging it. Genocide remains evil no matter who's for it or who's against it. It's not all partisan bashing, of course, there are some thoughtful comments. That second Grauniad link is actually a post by Instapundit, who wrote a followup Grauniad post about it In the 80's, I bet if the South African government should've just convinced Reagan to come loudly against them, there would've been few protests, no divestiture, and they might still be in power. Good thing they didn't think of that! Posted by Jon Kay at September 21, 2006 08:27 PMComments
Jon, Wow. No offense, but I really thought you were exaggerating in your post, so I followed your links, and was stunned to find there were people who were really making those kinds of arguments. Posted by: Bobby at September 21, 2006 11:14 PMBobby, Thank you for responding to archairgeneralists. On another thread there several "experts" claimed it was impossible for Democrats to do worse than the Republicans. I know one can't respond to the size of blogworld's misinformation, but every attempt does matter. I hope you didn't mind me quoting you. I should expected the reaction. Binary thinking has devolved into a complete distortion of America's real threats and our critical disunity. I went to the Darfur rally in Central Park and was stunned to hear a number of protestors claim Darfur was Bush's fault and that American domination has created the extremist revolution. It is almost like there is a virus going around. Why am I immune? Fiasco's last chapter is extremely sobering. Think LAD chances are good? I hope the Mets are getting bad play out of their system now before the playoffs. Victory goes to those peaking at the right time. Geez...does that apply to foreign conflicts? Posted by: Maxtrue at September 22, 2006 12:03 AMWow, The comments on that site were truely frightening. It's hard to believe that there are people out there who are that delusional. They did everything but claim that denunciations of the massacre in Darfur were a ploy of the secret jewish-cowboy/knight templer illuminati to make matzah out of the blood of peacefull, happy janjaweed children. I was going to post there but thought better of it. It would be a waste of time and effort. They don't need reasoned arguement...they need Thorazine.... lots and lots of it. Posted by: cengel at September 22, 2006 11:18 AMMeanwhile reality paints this Friday's picture in stark contrast to the fantasy above: "human rights cause" reborn at Common Dreams? Praise the Lord!!!! Shall we connect this dot with the one above? Or regard this "news" as a Zionist ploy to Dominate the World? What, me worry? Not if you're running Left of Hillary. These dots are just a few in the last 48 hr news cycle. To some it makes no difference what the facts are. The cause and solution must be the same regardless. And so it is written. They will hold fast in the absence of a strike on their doorstep despite the ticker tape: September 20th......World News.....Iran stating Annan told them to ignore suspension deadline and the UN does nothing for Darfur.....Hizb"Allah says no to disarming....Hamas rejects recognizing Israel.... Pakistan claims the US threatened them into their war on terror......polls showing growing Asia fear of China and strong Western suspicion of Russia and Iran (despite the views of No-Sanctions-Ever-Chirac)........ It doesn't matter to a growing crowd (quite a large one if you include the world). This news above is either wrong or intentionally designed (by who?) to scare Americans into accepting a "NEOCON" perspective that is evil and MOST DANGEROUS. It doesn't seem to matter that the basic observations of the world at large (its threats) that underpin the Right's position are consistent with the NSS. The majority in Congress approved the overall strategy (even regime change in Iraq). Such fundamental assessments of our threats and potential dangers are also supported by a healthy center of qualified experts, professionals, military, think tanks, and policy makers of both parties (better whisper if you are a member of the DLC) besides the support of millions of Americans. Free speech is all well and good (but not if it inflames Muslim sensibilities). The Far Side view comes in all shapes and sizes. It is hardly a sensible plank for Democrats to mimic. Maybe instead it will be what they walk ......
