September 14, 2006Equal opportunitiesAl Wynn (D) is "up four points, 50%-46.12%" on [the nutroots-backed] attorney Donna Edwards with 92.40% reporting. Matt Stoller at MyDD, however, is not ready to give up: "This primary isn't over. And if Al Wynn hadn't cheated, he would be giving a concession speech right now. ... First of all, there's a lot to be counted, and there are possible legal challenges depending on what happens. ... Second of all, don't trust the numbers that are out. They aren't real." Stoller has emails from voters claiming their vote was suppressed and he doesn't believe incompetence is to blame: "I want to first address the 'oh this wasn't stolen it was incompetence' line. If you steal an election, you first figure out how to make it look like incompetence so that you don't go to jail. If possible, you design incompetence into the operation so that there's no way to tell who would have won had the voting operation gone off smoothly."So, as it turns out, it's not Republicans that the nutroots hate, it's losing. Translation: if you beat a nutroots candidate, even if it's in a primary election, you will be treated as the enemy, and ergo, must have cheated in order to win. Upshot: henceforth, Republicans should no longer take the deranged rants about "stolen elections" personally - true to say, it's more about an innate need of the left to explain how they cold possibly have lost ("but we're correct and they're evil! They're THE ENEMY! How could we possibly lose if they didn't steal it? Good always triumphs over evil, and since we are good and THE ENEMY are evil, therefore if we lost, the deck must be rigged! There's no other explanation!") than it is about us. Posted by Simon at September 14, 2006 01:54 PMComments
I'm with the nutroots on this one (thud). Posted by: Mathew at September 14, 2006 02:04 PMEdwards versus Wynn that is. The point isn't really the particular candidates - the nutroots don't care about Edwards or Wynn, for that matter - they care only about purging the apostates and beating the bad guys. Everything and everyone is merely a tool in that game, and just as the NYT turned on Patrick Fitzgerald when it became apparent that his investigation was no longer of any use to their vendetta, so the nutroots are today interested in these people only because they see one of them as the enemy. They will move on, doubtless, although I fail to see why anyone in a right mind would stand with this person over practically anyone. Posted by: Simon at September 14, 2006 02:25 PMEdwards lost, so Wynn MUST have cheated! LMAO. The histrionics at MyDD are quite amusing. As are the speculations that it's a Major Conspircy by the Governer's office to rig the election, and the one guy blaming the poll workers, whom he describes as "elderly people with bad eyesight, arthritic hands, and no computer experience." It's a conspiracy. Of incompetent arthritic near-sighted elderly supergeniuses. They're probably complaining that the pollworkers were too stupid to understand that the right votes had to win. Well, duh, Jon. Isn't it obvious that right votes should count more than the wrong votes? At least at 1.5 times as much, I would think. Anything else would be unreal.
