I thought this one was pretty interesting: As much as no one wants to admit it, that is probably the cold, hard truth about the entire ME and the whole Arab/Israeli struggle. Bottom line, if the Arabs would leave Israel alone, Israel would leave them alone. But they can't, so they won't, yada yada. And Islam won't won't be satisfied until it is the ruling religion in the world. Posted by: Heather at September 14, 2006 03:03 PMThis story where the Saddam's judge says he is not a dictator is something that struck me when I first heard it yesterday. I pose this question that I don't think has really been thought about: what happens if Saddam is found not guilty? I think it is a possibility. Likely? Probably not. However, I think such a finding could really open a new set of major problems in Iran if it does happen. Posted by: Jim M at September 14, 2006 06:14 PMJim, First this But on a more serious note for all who buy into the Israel and the US screwed up Lebanon strategy I suggest you read this closely Scroll down and check out the top several stories. 1. Amal, a moderate Shiite faction says Hizb'Allah lost the war and has a. cost Lebanon dearly in lives and destruction b. now has foreign troops occupying their southern position c. illegally started the war d. has worked against the national interests of the people and are involved in Syria's renewed "hits" on anti-Syrian politicians in Lebanon. 2. AQ is now focusing on Israel and Arab moderates who feel threatened by Shiite extremism in Lebanon, Iraq, and of course Iran. It is interesting to note that many feel the US must exploit the differences between Shiites and Sunnis. The theory suggests that such tension can work against collaboration between Sunni and Shiite Jahadists. I’m not sure that this is correct. In any case Israeli deterrence has resulted in amplifying Hizb'Allah's mistake and has put them in a worsening position despite the flow of weapons from Syria. I point out the utter distortion of the media's projection of this situation in describing Bush's Middle East policy as completely lacking. That is why Jim's link is funny. We might find that excluding the Sunnis in Iraq was a mistake, but it will take moderate Sunnis and moderate Arabs to isolate extremists within their own ranks. It will take a united front against Iran to avert military strikes. It will take an honestly impartial media to frame public debate. I'm not too optimistic. Here’s another spin on Iraq, No more troops? And just one AP news cycle….is there some common threads? That should have been, "...it will take moderate Sunnis and moderate Shiites to isolate extremists in their ranks." Posted by: Maxtrue at September 15, 2006 01:38 AM |
