Whassup with the First AP Poll?

Have they stopped thinking?

The only team in the top five ranking that's likely to end there is West VA and Auburn (much I hate to admit it, the Horns are probably in rebuilding mode this year; I bet we lose 2).

And whassup with Notre Dame????????? It's been merely occasionally good, never great, throughout my entire lifetime. Did people think, well, they only lost 3 last year, maybe they're great again?

Ohio State at least is a really good team, but they're only going to stay in the top five until they lose in Austin in the second game of the season. I don't see them beating even a rebuilding Texas.

And Joe Leiberman isn't up in this poll. That can't be right?

Time to get off the crack Jon. Ohio State is going to pummel the Long Horns.

And as usual, the fact that the polls are weighted towards people in the eastern half of the country is reflected in the fact that only two (or one!) Pac-10 teams make the top 10. Sometimes I suspect that the University of Spoiled Children is the only west coast team that most of the rest of the country knows exists.

Oklahoma probably should be about five to ten spots lower considering their latest off season issue with QB. West Virginia is there by grace of a weak schedule. Florida may be too high too. I'm not sold on Urban Meyers offense working in the SEC. Plus, they will probably have a true freshman QB starting by mid-season. Texas without Vince Young, I would knock down a spot or two. LSU and Cal should be higher. Notre Dame and OSU are there. I would probably put them behind Auburn; but I think voters voted Auburn down becuase of schedule. If FSU gets by Miami at Miami (something they have not done in a while) and getting a running game, they could be there at the end. USC lost a lot. I think where they are is ok. I still think Cal knocks them off this year.

All I care about is for LSU to kick USC's ass in an undisputed national championship game...

Yeah, I don't believe Oklahoma will end as low as 10, either.

Lessee...last year, do remember that the 'Horns won. ISTR Young was hardly even in the Ohio State game, it was AT Ohio State, and they still lost. ISTR UT was a bit ahead even before the end, when the UT superior depth made the decision clear. What factor has changed Ohio State's way?
