August 14, 2006Joe Rolling in the DoughIt looks as if Joe will be able to jump in his vault like Scrooge McDuck and swim in his campaign contributions. There goes the theory that political donors are going to turn off the spigot. Howard Fineman went as far as to suggest that Joe's independent run would fold up within weeks after they realized the financial resources were dry. That simply is not going to be the case. Note to Kos nation: Na, na, na, na, na, na! Posted by Starbucks Republican at August 14, 2006 01:37 PMComments
This is political soap opera at its very best. It just doesn't get any better than that. The dastardly Lamont and his weirdo lefty friends defeat the good guy in the primary, declaring him dead and buried, and within a week, Joe Good Guy is swimming in money and the lefty weirdos are begging him to withdraw from the race so that he doesn't whip Dastardly Lamont in the election. As the World Turns ain't got nothing as good as this. I wonder who the first significant Democrat to break the dam and come out for Joe will be? Wouldn't it be great if it was Bubba? You couldn't get more soap opera than that. Posted by: Simon at August 14, 2006 01:59 PMSeveral Dem Congresscritters have already "re-endorsed" Lieberman, including Senators Nelson, Carper, Lincoln, and Pryor. Posted by: Tully at August 14, 2006 02:08 PMNo Tully! They are not Democrats, they are Lieberdems, Bush apologists, traitors! I call on Harry Reid to strip them all of their committee assignments! Nelson, Carper, Lincoln, Pryor, and Salazar, all need to have primary opponents the next time around! Burn them! Burn them all! As for Bill Clinton, we all know he is really a Republican anyway! Pshew... Welfare reform, balanced budget, bombing Iraq, going into Kosovo without the best wishes of the U.N.... C'mon! Posted by: Mathew at August 14, 2006 03:17 PMI didn't see anywhere in the link where it said he was doing well with fund raising. It said he already had 2M. It also implied that the money he was getting from fundraisers was GOP money. We will have to wait and see if that goes over very well in CT. Posted by: rob at August 14, 2006 03:19 PMrob, there were quite a few interviews in their with major Democratic donors saying how willing they were to give to Sen. Lieberman... and there was at least one guy who was not willing to discuss his political giving plans publicly. Since there's no reason to keep quiet about giving to the official Democratic nominee, that to me reads as an admission he plans to give to Lieberman, or perhaps both candidates. Posted by: PatHMV at August 14, 2006 03:47 PMLMAO, Mathew. :-) Add Senator Daniel Inouye to the list. And Brad Sherman of California. The heretics! How dare they claim to be Democrats? Posted by: Tully at August 14, 2006 05:11 PMDon't stop guys. You're on a roll. I have to say this is the most thoroughly entertaining thread I think I've ever read here. Jane Harman? Kent Conrad? Maria Cantwell? Can they be SAVED?????? Posted by: Cavalier829 at August 14, 2006 05:43 PMNo Cavalier, not Cantwell. She has recently decided that centrism isn't what will get her elected anymore, and endorsed Lamont. Last week she said she was against teaching intelligent design, although she voted for it... Has said she supports a timeline, although before she opposed it.... Supports raising the mininum wage unless it hurts tip earners, which the DOL said was bunk... etc., etc. Hmmmm.... Sound familiar? Posted by: Mathew at August 14, 2006 06:49 PMCantwell voted for Intelligent Design??? I'm skeptical. Do you have the vote #? I don't get why these folks take sides in these intra-party battles, especially when it's not in their own state. It's one thing if she had a primary challenger of her own, but she doesn't. Must be getting cocky. Posted by: Cavalier829 at August 14, 2006 07:08 PMThey need allies in the House, Cav. They're vying for leadership positions, looking for help with pet bills and pork, speaking time at the next DNC, and wanting some leadership PAC money to flow their way. Posted by: PatHMV at August 14, 2006 07:48 PMTo Kos and crowd: Take that, you scruffy nerf-herders! Posted by: Rafique Tucker at August 14, 2006 07:59 PMYeah! The centrists are standing up! Can we bring Obama back to the fold? Steny Hoyer? I know Harold Ford's got his head on straight...
