Will Sports Always Exist?

Will sports always exist, or will they give way entirely in time to video games, possibly including sports simulations?

If you include kids, absolutely. Kids NEED to get out and run around . . . and parents are more comfortable if it looks organized.

As for professional sports, I expect that the market will always be there to watch someone else do well something that you understand (sort of) but cannot actually do well yourself. If only so you can bewail their misplays. ;-) Which, in turn, requires lower levels of sport, if that name can be applied to training and apprenticeship.

They'll keep crossbreeding. Purists will complain, and the rest of us won't notice... people will continue to derive pleasure from competition as entertainment.

If anything, it's on the rapid uprise. Consider reality TV. Competition, whether sport, game, or hybrid, provides genuine drama and suspense, because we don't know what the outcome will be. Notice how this contrasts with movies and theater and so on, where the outcome, if not always predictable, is more predictable.

I wouldn't be surprised if, 100 years from now, football players are cyborgs (men-machine hybrids) or battle-bots controlled by celebrity gamers.
