July 18, 2006Wildcat Tuesday Open ThreadJust because....because I have a question about something fun I saw on the net. See the comments. Everything else is ok to, because we're OPEN for biz. Update; my raison d'etre for wildcat open threading mentioned in the thread below, the blog thatgirlemily, has been exposed as marketing. Posted by Brian Keegan at July 18, 2006 12:45 PMComments
So looking for a lunchtime laugh, I follow this fark link to thatgirlemily. It's the supposed blog of a scorned wife promising to exact 14 days of revenge upon her cheating lout of a husband. The centerpiece is a photo of a giant loutishness-exposing billboard erected near his job. Funny. But maybe too perfect. It smacks of a young artistic enterpriser and/or a guerilla marketing campaign for a book, movie, or TV show. I was wondering what others think of the legitimacy of this. Posted by: bk at July 18, 2006 12:51 PMSaw a car in South Florida with the personalized license plate DXWIFE, and the plate frame read: "He did it once, he'll do it again ... if you let him!" Sometimes, you have to move on. By the way, speaking of funny stuff online, check out the latest Kinky Friedman cartoon, it's linked off WeekendPundit.com or you can find it on KinkyFriedman.com. It's a hoot, especially Rick Perry saying "Adios, MoFo" at the end. Posted by: WeekendPundit at July 18, 2006 02:17 PMNow that's some funny stuff. Though I do have to agree, it seems almost too perfect, especially the best friend part. But still, a woman scorned is a woman scorned and it wouldn't surprise me if that was a true story. Either way, it's going to be a couple of funny weeks. On a slightly related note, it's 51 days till the end of relationship season when Miami (Miami? this is the best match-up the NFL could come up with for opening night? Ack.) travels to Pittsburgh to take on the Bus-less Steelers led by Roethlisbozo. I'm predicting a return to form for the Pats this year and a continuation of success in Seattle. My surprise, going out on a limb, no I haven't been drinking at work pick is Cleveland to win the AFC North. Charlie Frye is going to pull a Roethlisberger coming out of the MAC leading a much improved Cleveland team to victory. Reuben will start taking out his frustrations on the field instead of on his wife, LeCharles Bentley will lead a much improved offensive line, and Willie McGinest will put the D back in the Dawg Pound. Given my past record of success, you should now start running to Vegas to take the unders on Cleveland win total of 6 for the year. :-) Posted by: Scotch Drinker at July 18, 2006 03:06 PMI like the Browns to keep improving as well..they may even be favorite sleeper. They have to get past the Bengals though. Tough division. The Lions could be a sleeper too, as they enter the post-Harrington era. Have they dumped their bozo GM yet? Looking forward to seeing if Bledsoe to TO works out, yielding widespread pundit miffage.. Not sure how well my Patriots will bounce back. They are pretty solid across the board, but they could be in trouble depthwise if a WR or LB or CB gets hurt. Awesome D line. They'll certainly miss Vinatieri sooner or later. Posted by: bk at July 18, 2006 03:31 PMThis just in: Californians are cautioned to avoid marmots. Posted by: Tully at July 18, 2006 04:41 PMSaints will be much-improved, and were a bubble team last year. Same with the Dolphins. And just cause I really feel sorry for the guy, I'm hoping Brett Favre has a banner year in Green Bay, but I wouldn't put money on that one. Posted by: WeekendPundit at July 18, 2006 04:47 PMI'd love to see Favre have a good year, only because last year was so pitiful. The Saints will be improved but more through attrition (goodbye Jim Haslet, Aaron Brooks) than through addition (hello Drew Brees, Reggie Bush). However, I just don't see it happening for Miami. People like to think Daunte is a huge step up from GusenSage but he has a tendency to absolutely kill you when you least expect it. Ronnie Brown will be awesome but there will be times when Daunte has to throw the ball to win and I think it will get ugly. Of course, it's really hard to go against Nick Saban. Posted by: Scotch Drinker at July 18, 2006 04:58 PMSteeler quarterback will be back, so expect them to be tough again. Patriots will be in it and the Bears might be the sleeper. I wouldn't count the Colts out either. From Colts to bolts......Bolts defective in the Great Dig? Want to start a pool over the final bill? With all that money everyone in that state could have free health care for a decade plus including illegals. I bet all thoses displaced rats are laughing now......... And lastly, Saddam warns Syria not to get involved with Iran A Bush supporter...... Posted by: Maxtrue at July 18, 2006 05:32 PMI didn't know where to put this anyone care to comment? I think Gingrich had stronger arguments than Biden on meet the press Sunday. Joe did make some good points. Putting Will in with Gingrich is a mistake I think. In general, is this opposition to foreign policy, right or left of Bush? What does this mean for the White House and for McCain? And how will this be spun by the Kossaks on the run? Already they are forced to articles like this. Notice the Kosian talking points Any bets on Bush's first veto? And a Congressional over ride? Posted by: Maxtrue at July 19, 2006 08:10 AMSteelers/Bengals in another dead heat, Steelers take it this year, win the Bowl easily over New Orleans (NFC kinda doesnt have much going for it) Big Dig, scary stuff. I am taking a trip up to Boston this week to see a friends band and avoiding the Big Dig like the plague 1100 bad bolts. Saddam, our lovable dicatorial fruitcake. And lastly, SciFi channel new series: Dead Like Me - funny funny, and odd, in a fun way - taped Eureka, didnt get a chance to watch it yet. Anyone else catch these? Posted by: Dan at July 19, 2006 08:32 AMI really haven't seen a lot of Culpepper, and when I have, he has been underwhelming, but I still think he's an upgrade. Can anyone from Minnesota comment? See, I tend to think that qbs look worse than their talent when they are must play from behind because their defense is weak. So if a guy is putting up 2nd half INTs while throwing 35+ passes, I give him a mulligan. Because it's noit so much that he's "killing you," but that he is put into more situations where circumstances force him to throw risky and low percentage passes. So Culpepper is going to a good situation in Miami, which has had a pretty good defense over the recent past and should have a good ground game with a solid young runner in the fold. Up here in Patriots country, we're taking the Fins seriously. Posted by: bk at July 19, 2006 09:20 AMI liked the Eureka pilot. Twin Peaks meets X Files. But can it hold up as a series? Posted by: Tully at July 19, 2006 09:30 AMBush found that long-missing veto pen. I'd link, but I'm afraid it would re-direct to The Onion. Posted by: Tully at July 19, 2006 03:41 PMAlways good advice, Tully. And one of our favorite subjects too. Check out Kelly's The Great Mortality which we discussed long ago, for a fascinating chapter on how the Black Death (acually, the Big Death) first sparked when infected rat fleas jumped from marmots to Mongolian marmot hunters. Posted by: Blue Jean at July 20, 2006 04:18 PMThat almost sounds like an indie rock band! "The Mongolian Marmot Hunters." But if they were fronting for Big Death, they'd have to be metal.
