April 19, 2006Shakeups at the White HouseScott McClellan is out, and Karl Rove is giving up his policy responsibilities to focus more on politics. Fox News Radio host Tony Snow is rumored as a possible replacement for McClellan. I predicted here more than 2 weeks ago that, contrary to initial reports, a real shake-up in White House staff was about to happen. This is a major shake-up. Even the Twins will be replaced by Chelsea starting next week. Posted by PatHMV at April 19, 2006 10:52 AMComments
You call that a shake-up? Posted by: rob at April 19, 2006 01:29 PMI think Scott's departure could actually make a big difference, depending on--of course--who replaces him. He's probably a nice enough guy, but he seemed to come across as a kid in a room of grown ups half the time. There's no doubt that he didn't have the clout (and thus access) to Bush that his predecessor did, and that was easily noticeable in the weak statements we've seen particularly in the last year. He just never struck me as confident. Tony Snow would certainly be an interesting choice... Posted by: AR at April 19, 2006 02:32 PMMe, I think the WH communications have been on the wrong track ever since Karen Hughes left. That woman is responsible for getting President Bush elected, and it was a shame she left as early as she did. Posted by: PatHMV at April 19, 2006 02:40 PMNOOOOOO! Not the twins! Seriously, McLellan has my eternal sympathy, as do all White House press secretaries. If I had to pick the worst job in the White House, that'd be the one. Posted by: Tully at April 19, 2006 04:14 PMYou said it Tully... that's the job where the traditional gift from the outgoing guy to his successor (regardless of party differences) is an actual flak jacket. Posted by: PatHMV at April 19, 2006 05:08 PMI hear they've upgraded that to full-torso Level IV with added impact plates. They were gonna step even farther up, but they couldn't figure out how to fit it in the press room. Posted by: Tully at April 19, 2006 05:36 PMSo not really a new job for Snow, eh? Posted by: carla at April 19, 2006 07:45 PMIs Tully the ONLY one who thinks the Twins story is funny? Posted by: PatHMV at April 19, 2006 07:53 PMNah, the letter to the Twins was funny, Pat. I especially liked the criticism of their "Valley Girl-style convention speech." That speech was the most heavily criticized thing to come out of the convention, and yet it was immensely popular with the "youth" demographic to which it was intended. All it did was remind me of how the average media pundit is a stale-thinker and can't think outside of their generational box... Like Elvis originally being criticized for his long hair and shaking his hips. Not that the First Twins will ever have an impact like the King, but then that statement could be applied to 99.9% of the Political Establishment (much as they would hate to admit it). Posted by: Bobby at April 19, 2006 11:00 PMThe twins story was funny, Pat. I did actually chuckle out loud. You are absolutely right about Karen. I've said that since she left the first time. It's been very obvious. Posted by: AR at April 19, 2006 11:02 PM |
