March 25, 2006The Sioux Step UpWe've all heard about South Dakota's attempt to almost totally outlaw abortion. Tribal leader rallies for abortion clinic on reservation Oglala Sioux Tribe President Cecelia Fire Thunder says a clinic on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation could provide abortions if South Dakota’s new abortion ban goes into effect. Yup. Comments
If people were just smart enough to use protection when they have sex this would not even be an issue. I'm tired of debating the Abortion issue. It's so old. Posted by: Centrist Chris at March 26, 2006 07:23 AMThe problem is, CC, that protection sometimes fails. Or people don't use it. Or sometimes they run into a Bernard ( a creepy villain with major sexual issues.) In fact, Bernard would probably have grown up to be a legislator like the ones who passed this law (if Billy Jack hadn't killed him first, ;-) As a matter of fact, this problem cries out for a remake of Billy Jack. The Freedom School can be replaced by the reservation, Roberts by Cecilia Fire Thunder, and we can go on a casting call for a new Billy Jack. Jackie Chan would probably do it, and he looks more Native American than Tom Loughin. ;-) Posted by: Blue Jean at March 26, 2006 10:58 AMC'mon, sing it with me; One tin soldier rides awaaay... Posted by: Blue Jean at March 26, 2006 10:59 AMInteresting because during my time on the reservation I never found Indians (Apaches) to be strongly pro-choice but then again every tribe is different. Hopefully, this isn't akin to legalized gambling on the res.(i.e. a money making proposition) Posted by: c3 at March 26, 2006 11:06 AMAw, go easy on him, Jean. It takes real skill to get apathy, ignorance, condescension, and dismissal all in one short comment. How about Stephen Segal for the Billy Jack remake? It's about his speed, and we could call him by his Native American name, "Three Chins." :-D Posted by: Tully at March 26, 2006 03:42 PMLMAO! Your Segal suggestion is perfect, Tully. :-D He's certainly menacing enough (if he told me to drive my car into the lake, I'd do it.) And he fulfills the requirement that Billy Jack must have no sense of humor. Ever. However, considering his background maybe he'd be a better Bernard. ;-) Nah, too old for Bernard. Have to get somebody young and scary looking (and somewhat hot, though not as hot as Billy Jack of course). Hmmm...have to get back on that one. I'd say Sean Penn, but he's too mature too. In the original film, Howard Hesseman and his Freedom School skits fills the need for comic relief; I guess we'd have to go with Tom Green for the remake, but my heart's not in it. Posted by: Blue Jean at March 28, 2006 08:27 PMSeagal's mostly self-invented, with a significant reality discnnect. You may take that however you wish. :-) But he certainly has the right stage presence for Billy Jack--humorless, wooden, etc. Hesseman was the best part of the movie. Woody Harrelson would make a good Bernard. I'd LOVE to see Kevin Smith do the flick! Posted by: Tully at March 29, 2006 01:15 PM |
