Geaux Tigers!

Geaux Tigers! So sorry, Duke, but bye-bye! That's all I've got to say. The rest of you, here's your Friday open thread.

P.S. If LSU hosed your Final Four picks, I'm delighted we ruined your day!

Hee hee. Go Shockers!

I'm just glad Duke is out. Duke would have to be playing Al Quaeda for me to root for the Blue Infidels.

Hey, my alma mater (Memphis) is still alive! We are also Tigers. And I did not have Duke in the Final Four.

Marc, I'm sorry my Tigers will have to defeat your Tigers on our way to #1...

It is a big basketball weekend in Minneapolis. First, there are the NCAA regional semi-finals tonight and the regional finals on Sunday at the Metrodome. On the other end of downtown, the state high school boys basketball tournament is taking place. I enjoy the different atmosphere that takes over downtown Minneapolis when it is invaded with folks from other states or outstate Minnesota here to cheer on their teams. Now, we have both at the same time. It seems like every ten feet I stop to give someone directions.

I had Duke winning the whole shabang. My pool is moribund, obsolete and bankrupt. The entire left side beyond the Sweet 16 was completely Xed out last night. I'm not that upset, though. I don't really like Duke. In fact, they're just the kind of team I would normally root against, like Notre Dame or Penn State in football.

Unrelatedly, I listen to NPR a lot. As you probably know, they cover stuff other media outlets miss and have lots of good interviews, but sometimes they cover stuff I really couldn't give a crap about, and I can't imagine who else could possibly give a crap about some of it. I get lulled into complacency while listening, so it sometimes takes a minute or two for it to occur to me that I'm listening to something that I find to be utterly insipid. It's usually some obscure cultural thing involving, say, really bad native music in some tiny corner of the world, or maybe some unusual form of basket weaving. It suddenly hits me - "Why the hell am I listening to this???!!!" Does this happen to any of you?

Snakes On a Plane.

Pat,

Can the Tigers play each other in the finals? Before that, though, we (Memphis)have a rematch of the 1973 title game with UCLA.

Posted by: Marc at March 24, 2006 01:59 PM

WHQ--yes. They cast a wide net. Can't please everyone all the time, but they do have some neat stuff on. Of course, my neat stuff may not be your neat stuff.

Posted by: Tully at March 24, 2006 02:24 PM

Yes, Marc. When LSU beats Texas and Memphis beats UCLA, then we'll play each other in the Final Four.

Casting a wide net and varying cups of tea don't quite capture what I sometimes experience. It's not just that I'm not into it. It's that they put some stuff on that only maybe three lesbian dwarves in Vermont, who exclusively eat raw veal, might find interesting. And it's also that I'll sometimes listen to it for a while before noticing.

LMAO. You left out the leather nun of Capistrano!

Shockers and George Mason both played good defense. But only GM played good offense. Shockers couldn't find the backboard, much less the hoop. The final score was entirely too kind to them--they didn't shoot 30% from the field or 10% on 3 pointers.

Pat, the last time WSU went to the Sweet Sixteen it was LSU that took 'em out.
