Races To Watch

As in, we're looking for same. What Congressional and Senatorial districts should we be keeping an eye on, in either the primaries or the general elections?

My lead-off nomination is the Arizona 8th Congressional, where the retirement of moderate/centrist Republican Jim Kolbe leaves the Democrats a real pickup opportunity in a district that leans only slightly Republican by the demographics.

Yes, the 8th will be interesting. Here's a review of the race. Interesting that the present front-runner on the Dem side is a moderate and the best known candidate on the GOP side is a "a pro-life, seal-the-border, no-guest-worker conservative". That would be interesting if Tucson maintained a moderate representative, but one from the other party.

In the Senate race its John Kyl, low key conservative Republican versus former state Democratic Chair, Jim Pederson. I think Kyl's safe.

Though I'm a registered Republican I would love to see a strong Dem candidate against JD Hayworth.

Oh yeah, and our Democratic star Gov. Napolitano is up for re-election, no strong GOP opposition at this time. At this point, I'd vote for her.
