March 01, 2006Horowitz Finds Out That Liberals Can Write ScriptsHorowitz ran a "Worst Professor in America" poll and didn't find the results to his liking. Michael Berube told his blog-readers that he wanted to win the poll.... Posted by Jon Kay at March 1, 2006 11:29 AMComments
Well I'd say that goes to show 3 things:
2) Internet polls are inherenity unreliable (i.e. even if you track unique IP addresses, there's no way to tell how many unique individuals you are actualy dealing with..... a single IP address can represent 1000 different individuals if it's coming from behind a NAT'd firewall.... and a 1000 different IP addresses can represnt a single individual if you are dealing with some-one using zombies) 3) Berube and his crowd of supporters are as a big a bunch of wankers as Horowitz claims them to be. Posted by: cengel at March 1, 2006 12:31 PMIt's always fun to watch the dedicated wingers throw spitballs at each other, shrilly proclaiming their rightness. Amusing, but I'd rather watch Michael Moore and Randall Terry square off in a cage death match.... Heck, I'd even pay extra for that. Posted by: Tully at March 1, 2006 12:43 PMTo follow up on Tully --- Question: If Michael Moore and Randall Terry fight in a cage match to the death, who would win? Answer: America. Posted by: Dan at March 1, 2006 01:13 PMEspecially if they just locked the cage and threw away the key. Yeah, we need a giant coliseum with 2 entrances. Over one, we hang a sign that says "free abortion doctor extermination kits." Over the other? "Bush impeachment rally. Free healthcare to first 1000 entrants." Then when we fill up, we just send in the kitties and lock the doors. No, not really. We just reason with them. Really. I was thinking about Grizzly Man, and hoping we could get some ardent PETA folk to defend the heroic Treadwell as the picture of sanity. Then we could offer these folks free 1-way bus tickets to Alaska as part of an effort to convert the Grizzlies to veganism. And throw in free tents and sleeping bags. Made of salmon jerky, of course. Yup, feeling crusty today. Posted by: bk at March 1, 2006 02:11 PMBK, LOL, I actualy hadn't heard of Grizzly Man until you mentioned it. My wife and I always get a laugh watching some of the uber PC National Geographic "Wildlife Experts" when the ask quizicly "Why would this particular [insert large predator here] choose to attack a human being in this particular incident.... humans are not thier natural prey?" when they show specials about incidents like this.
- Bears are large, dangerous opportunity predators that require major quantities of protien to keep going. - Human beings are large, relatively slow walking sacks of protien with few natural defences and are typicaly far less alert and less attuned to the wilderness then virtualy ANY of a bears typical prey species (aside from spawning salmon, maybe). - The ONLY reason that bears and other large predators aren't preying on these walking smorgesboards on a regular basis is that for centuries when humans have ventured out into the wilderness they have done so carrying WEAPONS .....and predators have therefore learned through instinct that humans are too dangerous to risk preying upon. Take away the weapons....and humans make an absurdly easy meal for most large predators. - When these instincts start to slip, because these animals aren't encountering armed humans on a regular basis... individual animals are going to start to test for the viability of a potential new food source (namely US).
Since we're way off-topic anyway -- I did want to throw in my two cents about Grizzly Man. It's an excellent film. I went in, honestly, thinking I'd just be laughing at this idiot who got eaten by a grizzly. But the filmmaker, Werner Herzog, does something really interesting --- essentially, he says, this was a guy who really documented some great nature footage, even though he himself was delusional in believing that nature was essentially kind, rather than "red in tooth and claw." In other words, as a documentary filmmaker, he praises Treadwell's accomplishments, but sees Treadwell himself rather as a lost soul. It's really worth a look. Amusing, but I'd rather watch Michael Moore and Randall Terry square off in a cage death match.... Heck, I'd even pay extra for that. Randall Terry vs. Michael Moore. That's good, because you don't root for either of them. Then we have Ann Coulter vs. Ted Rall, and this continues until all the extremists from both sides beat themselves into a stupor.. Posted by: Rafique Tucker at March 1, 2006 09:58 PMWhat's not to love about Celebrity WingNut Death Match? As long as you're not on the clean-up staff, that is. :-) Though I really shoulda matched Limbaugh against Moore instead of Terry. Terry's too skinny to have a chance, unless he just runs away until Moore drops from exhaustion. He'd be a good match for Nader, though. Next week: Sean Hannity vs. Al Franken..... Posted by: Tully at March 2, 2006 08:42 AMActually, Rafique, I'd be rooting for both of them. I want both to win! :-D Posted by: Tully at March 2, 2006 10:12 AM |
