Tuesday Two-fer

Cathy Young, Boston Globe columnist, Reason Contributor, and one of my favorite editorialists, now has a blog, The Y Files. Regrettably, her advertising sponsors smack of conservative kant, but I think she's a pretty reasonable and fair-minded person who I'd classify as fairly centrist.

The Pew center's recent report on American public opinion on abortion includes a wealth of detail. It surveys results from a variety of similar polls. I was surprised by the extent of expressed report for fairly substantial limits on abortion AND support for keeping Roe v. Wade. There's an interesting bit at the end about what Americans think is important in a Supreme Court nominee. A solid majority of Americans think that knowing a nominee's views on issues like abortion and affirmative action is important. So many Americans disagree with the technical insider's view that probing such matters is inappropriate. Read the whole thing.

UPDATE: Let's call it a three-fer. Reason's daily brickbats is always well worth a read for an accounting of government enforcement gone idiotarian, and some of the recent ones are real head-shakers. Especially the one about a NJ town planning to take a bar by eminent domain so a catholic school can build a soccer field. (The link to that actual story has gone down, BTW.)

Hi Brian,

Thanks very much for the link.

May I just note that I don't choose my "advertising sponsors" -- Google Ads does! (Actually, since I've been blogging about same-sex marriage for the past few days, I've been getting lots of ads for gay weddings and honeymoon spots.)
