I just saw this.

Can I do my little happy dance now? ;-)

Regardless of the merits of curbing deficits via decreased spending or increasing taxes, I'd take this more seriously as something beyond PR-driven if leaders were willing to embrace at least a few small rollbacks of recent tax cuts in order to make this a broader effort.

Instead, what I'm seeing is that many of proposed cuts are from off of the laundry list of favored GOP whipping boys. That makes it feel to me more like opportunism, the seeing of another chance to get rid of something you've been trying to get rid of for a long time but haven't been able to, because it has a solid constiuency. That's different than an effort to curb deficits as the true goal, and making it enough of a priority that you'd bend a little bit on the "exactly hows."

I have to agree with BK on this one. You summed it up nicely and I can't really add much to it.

“[Conference] Chairman [Deborah] Pryce [R-Ohio] believes it’s important for members to tell leadership what’s on their minds and tell them what they’re hearing back in the district,” said conference spokesman Sean Spicer.

As someone who has written to Deborah Pryce and has been ignored on her 75% of the time and the other 25% of the time only received a cut and paste response, I'm wary of anything that she says since she's someone who'll claw onto anything to get more power.
