April 19, 2005Cover GirlAnn Coulter is on the cover of Time Magazine. It's a strange photo, showing mostly legs. Howie Kurtz has more. Ann Coulter represents everything we are not at Centerfield. Hyperbolic, mean, and superficial. Unfortunately, that's what gets media coverage. I do admit she can be funny sometimes, but I'm afraid some of her fans take her seriously. What's so amusing is that, true to form, Coulter has ripped the "liberal bias" at Time that distorted her photo. Of course, Time never distorts any other photos...lol...it was all bias against the conservatism that Coulter represents. What amuses me so much about Ann is that her minions cannot see past the smoldering sexiness and recognize that the woman is basically a white, sexy, political Margaret Chao. I think you are right...they actually take the woman seriously. I have some other comments on her, but I'm not sure that they are appropriate to mention here...lol. Posted by: AH at April 19, 2005 11:05 AMLike the cliché about the restaurant that no one frequents anymore because it is so crowded, no one - left or right - reads Coulter or attends when she speaks. That is because she is so vile. Well I am not afraid to say that, taken in small doses, she can be very amusing. She certainly pricks a lot of pretentious liberal balloons. She is seldom mean unless it is your pretention that is pricked and your feelings are hurt. Superficial almost always. What, Jay Leno is not? Politics? Entertainment. News? Entertainment. With the blurring of all media with entertainment, you can make a great living just by being obnoxious and full of sh!t. Especially if you are hot. As Coulter has proven, it's good work if you can get it. It's a much less taxing job then her previous gig shooting fish in a barrel. Posted by: bk at April 19, 2005 12:28 PMThe best spoof award for this goes to Jesus' General: it says everything I think about it and more. Posted by: MrProliferation at April 19, 2005 12:36 PMLOL. Yeah, TIME never used that fish-eye photo-cover technique on any Dems...certainly not in that shot of Bill Clinton in his "Waiting for Monica" pose that emphasized his large, um, hands.... In small doses Coulter can be devastatingly funny. In large doses she rapidly becomes extremely tedious. Posted by: Tully at April 19, 2005 01:20 PMThere is a certain wild energy to her...she smokes, rides motorcycles, appears to be insatiable...lol. I'll stop. Posted by: AH at April 19, 2005 02:57 PMOne thing I don't like about Coulter is that she wants to have it both ways. She has no problem about using her looks to get attention, but at the same time, she wants people to consider her a serious thinker. In this sense, she uses her "babeness" as a political tool--i.e, she uses her looks as a way of advertising that she is an "anti-feminist" and at the same time ostensibly stand for traditional values. I like looking at her, I just don't like listening to her. Posted by: MWS at April 20, 2005 01:39 PMMaybe it's because I'm not a guy...but I do not get the "babeness" factor with Coulter. At all. She's way too skinny and her face is hard looking. Yeah she's a blonde (better living through modern chemistry..I'm down with that)...but so what? I dunno...maybe my lack of a penis clouds my judgement. Or clarifies it. Posted by: carla at April 20, 2005 06:32 PMCarla; |
