What a Slow News Day

CNN ran a story on their website about Bush's iPod.

The playlist does reveal a rather narrow range of babyboomer tunes. Writing in the London Times, Caitlin Moran noted: "No black artists, no gay artists, no world music, only one woman, no genre less than 25 years old, and no Beatles."

Now, maybe it's just me, but that pretty much describes my musical taste as well. Scrolling through my favorite iTunes playlist, the music I listen to nearly exclusively, there are only white men from my generation, with the possible exception of a few songs from the Matrix soundtrack.

To attempt to psychoanalyze a person based on the songs they listen to is a dangerous game. For instance, a plurality of the music I listen to on a reuglar basis is about breaking up, yet I am in a stable, long-term relationship and had been while nearly all of this music worked its way into my regular rotation.

So at first I just dismissed the article as CNN hyping something irrelevant again, but there's also a front page story on the BBC News website. I don't mean to get so worked up over all of this, but seriously, even on a slow news day I'm sure there are better things to put on the front pages of major news websites.
