March 13, 2005Moderate PartyFor those who are interested, there is a moderate party that is organizing. I don't see much future for a centrist third party, except as a vehicle for someone like John McCain were he to run for President as an independent, so I won't be joinining this now. Comments
Exactly what leads you to state that McCain is a moderate? Posted by: FC at March 14, 2005 10:19 AMMcCain is center-right. He holds a number of conservative positions, but is one of the most likely Republicans to break with his party and join with Democrats. Posted by: rickheller at March 14, 2005 10:28 AMSorry, I'll need a bit more than your assertion that he is "Center Right." I'd argue that he is a grandstanding far-rightist. Here is some datum: On pandering to the far-right: "Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father." On Abortion: Supports the overturn of Roe On the Death Penalty: Supports a broader use of the Death Penalty On the Drug War: Increase penalties for selling drugs, institute the death penalty for drug kingpins, tighten boarded security, increase military assistance to Colombia. Restrict methadone treatment programs ("Addiction Free Treatment Act," S.423) On the Confederate flag: "a symbol of heritage" On Tort Reform: Establish limits on damages. On Taxes: Supports a flatter tax system. I guess he's pro-environment, though. Does that make you a centrist? Posted by: FC at March 15, 2005 09:07 AM |
