Crazy Train

All aboard!

Politology is trying to amp up the volume against the bankruptcy bill.

Instapundit, Buzzmachine, Tacitus, and others are on board. I say we go off the rails! This has a flavor of getting rammed through, and I don't like it. Maybe an obnoxious stink can stop this from getting signed into law, or prompt official scrutiny of lending practices.

Even the partisan cartoonists have the sneer on!

Day by Day.

(If you're reading this on Friday or later, you'll have to roll back to catch the cartoon in question.)

I haven't read the bill (I took one look at bankruptcy law in law school and ran for the hills), but I suspect that "rammed through" isn't quite the right phrase for this legislation. My understanding is that it's virtually the same bill that's been introduced in every Congress since 1997, and that it's simply the first year the Senate Republicans have kept Senate Democrats from putting on a killer amendment somehow relating to abortion protests.

Again, I can't comment on the merits of the bill, only my feeble understanding of its provenance.

I must still plead significant ignorance on the merits and problems of the bill (in spite of hearing and reading a lot). But help me understand how this became labelled a "republican bill". A whole bunch of democratic senators voted for it including the Minority leader Reid. I see a lot of moderate Democrats who voted for it including Ken Salazar, Barbara Boxer, Joe Biden, Bayh, etc. Are we really saying they were all duped by or tools of the banks and credit card companies?

In Biden's case, yes.

Sign me up.

This is one of the times the left and the right (and the center) can work together.

The left side of the blogosphere is just as pissed about this as the right.
