A Weblog of Centrist Voices in American Politics |
|
February 14, 2005Voice ChatPlease join us Sunday, February 20, 2005 at 9:00 pm EST for our first national centrist voice chat at the Centrist Townhall Yahoo! Group. The main focus of our discussion will be electoral reform. Each of our chats will also feature a fellow moderate/centrist blogger, and this week our guest will be Joe Gandelman of The Moderate Voice. In addition to sharing some of his thoughts on the centrist movement and his blog, Joe will talk about some of Gov. Schwarzeneggar's initiatives in California, where Joe lives. In order to participate, you need to be a member of the Yahoo Group. The sole purpose of the Centrist Townhall group is to host these chats, and messages posted within the group will be limited to announcements regarding future sessions, so you don’t have to worry about receiving a flood of emails as a result of joining the group. You will also need a microphone if you want to participate in the voice chat. However, you can still listen to other speakers even if you don’t have a microphone. Members of the group simply click the link for Chat in the group menu to enter the chat room. The first time you enter you may be prompted to download something from Yahoo. This installs itself in a couple of seconds if you OK it. You may have to enable voice upon entering the room, and you will have to press the “Talk” button to actually speak in the chat room. There's a big article about Arnold on Opinion Journal, including a nice Wall Street Journal grayscale portrait of the man. I bought a PC mike at CompUSA for under $20. Posted by: rickheller at February 14, 2005 11:03 PMI'll be at the voicechat, though I must caution, my voice is more revealing of my young age than my writing. :P Posted by: Max at February 14, 2005 11:16 PMThat's when SNL's anniversary is on... Posted by: Daniel at February 15, 2005 12:38 AMI'll be there, obviously. If you're planning to get a mike, I recommend the headphones models with the mike built in. It's so much easier to just put your headphones on and not worry about where the mike is. Posted by: William Swann at February 15, 2005 06:34 AMAny brand name/model recommendation for a PC mike? I had one years ago that never worked. Posted by: EG at February 15, 2005 08:18 AMIf you use a laptop, you may even have a built-in microphone. That's what I use. The headsets are a good idea, as they help you avoid feedback problems. Posted by: jmauzy at February 15, 2005 09:00 AMThe PC mike I recently bought is a PLANTRONICS .AUDIO 15 and it works fine for this application. I have used the Plantronics Audio 90 with an IP video application that I use periodically for conferences with a client. It works very well. You can find it at http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/productSearch/prod440020. Whatever you use I suggest that you stay away from hardware that uses a USB connection. You will have much better audio plugged directly into the sound card on your computer. Hope to hear you on Sunday. Posted by: Jack (CommonSenseDesk) at February 16, 2005 10:57 PM |
