January 10, 2005Good News From AfghanistanChrenkoff's monthly Afghanistan report--the news you don't see on CBS. Posted by Tully at January 10, 2005 11:11 AMComments
Tully, The things I'm worried about in Afghanistan isn't whether we've done some good things over there (obviously we have), it's whether insurgent forces have regrouped and whether the population will support Karzai if violence against the new govt. flares up again. The Taliban and al Qaeda have not been wiped out over there, and the northwestern portion of Pakistan houses more than a few anti-US factions. Don't get me wrong, the successful elections were a great victory, but the tribal mentality of the nation may garner more loyalty than Karzai (a former exile). I can't see an Afghan population resisting a renewed insurgency even if we build schools and provide clean water for many of the people. It kinda reminds me of a story about an old woman and a rattlesnake... Posted by: scott at January 10, 2005 09:41 PM |
