December 27, 2004Arnold On The CenterThe Radical Centrist reports that Arnold Schwarzeneggar has made the shocking suggestion that Republicans embrace the center, while Arthur Chrenkoff warns Republicans that that it might cause the hard right to sit the next election out.
Kudos to Arnold, one of the few politicos who has even noticed that the center exists! Posted by rickheller at December 27, 2004 07:27 PM Comments
Arnold had to turn to the center because the CA conservatives backed another candidate in the referendum/election. Posted by: EG at December 27, 2004 09:50 PMI am a moderate Republican. I believe in abortion, I believe in strict gun control. Thus, I would applaud anyone, who of their own volition, moves to or finds a centrist view of politics. With that stated, I am loathe to congratulate Arnold on this, because I dont think this decision was his. Republicans and all those who voted for the President, must remember who his wife is. We must also remember who his wife is related to. Maria, Jack, Bobby, and Teddy literally invented the liberal wing of the democratic party. Somehow, I dont think liberal thinking plays with what we just witnessed on November 2, 2004. Sources and higher ups in Arnold's administration have as much as admitted that Maria has a hand in policy making decisions. While I dont have a problem with democratic thinking, as I agree with some of it, I do have a problem with it being imposed through a someone in the coat of a Republican. I am not saying Arnold is hollow. I am also not saying that he is a puppet being controlled by his wife. I just dont feel comfortable with someone that close to the democratic party has a husband advocating "lets move to the center." It would be exactly as if Mary Matalin held a press conference tommorrow and implored Republicans should move to the center. Would that seem suspicious to anyone? The only question to answer is which party will be brave enough to make such a move Posted by: Paul at December 29, 2004 12:45 PMI think there will continue to be individuals from both parties who will represent the views of the majority of us out here who are called centrists... but the likelihood of either party moving towards the center as a whole is quite slim. As I'm sure some of you have read in some of the books that would fall into the realm of centrist/moderate/independent political literature, both parties have been trending away from the center for decades now, which is probably the number one cause (I think) for the drastically lower percentages of the populace who vote. The next presidential election will be quite interesting. I can't wait to find out who Mrs. Clinton will pick as her Vice Presedential running mate. She is already beginning to move towards the center, and with her past support for some very liberal causes she will have no problem keeping the party under her banner as she moves towards the center. I just hope the Republicans end up choosing a real moderate to run against her... I'm a big McCain fan (I actually voted for him this year) so I hope he gets the nod, but I'm not holding my breath. It'll take someone like him to knock Hillary out though, so maybe common sense will avail... because we all know how much common sense politicians use right? hehe Posted by: Solomon at December 30, 2004 02:48 AMtoo...the original setting of London direct tv web as opposed to Chicago is bound to read bras differently.
