Early Voting

The Kerry campaign is keeping track of the early voting, and claims its doing well, at least in 2 states:

More than 5 million people have already voted across the country, and information that the campaign has acquired indicates that Kerry has a big advantage over Bush in Iowa and Florida amongst those who have voted early.

I've seen other accounts that have Bush leading susbtantially among early voters. Barring some verified polling sources, I suspect it's all puff, "opposition discouragement" tactics of talking up one side and talking down the other.

Aside from the campaigns' spin, the good news is that people are voting early in record numbers.

Nearly 2 Million Vote Early in Florida

Early voting may extend the nasty season, but it also changes the dynamics of dirty campaigning and smooths out the "bumps" from the B[ovine] S[catology] propaganda, as well as making Election Day itself (we hope) less a three-ring circus at crowded polls. To my mind this is a good thing!

I know Oregon has gone to an ALL mail-in ballot system. Carla, if you catch this, what's your take on the Oregon ballot system? It looks to me like the "voter ballot error" rate has declined considerably. This would make sense--you have more time to go over your ballot, and can review it and consider it before mailing it.
