October 28, 2004"ABC Airs Videotape of Man Making Al Qaeda Threat"Drudge has been hyping this for a few days. Now it is out. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - ABC News on Thursday broadcast a videotape it obtained last week of an English-speaking man who threatens bloody new al Qaeda attacks on the United States, but the network said U.S. intelligence officials could not authenticate the man's voice. . . Quite honestly, I think that the senior leadership of al-Qaeda wants Bush re-elected for this reason: "[H]e's a provocative figure, and the more they can push people to the extreme, the better for their case." nick, Just so you know, I am going to vote for Bush (reluctantly). Also, thanks for coming back. Posted by: Todd Pearson at October 28, 2004 10:41 PMI think Al Qaeda will claim victory whoever is elected. If it's Bush, they'll say it will help in their recruiting. If it's Kerry, they'll claim the America has admitted defeat. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what they want. Posted by: Will at October 28, 2004 11:24 PMI agree, Will. Posted by: Tully at October 29, 2004 01:01 AMI think who al Qaida wants reelected is irrelevant. Who has the better anti-terror strategy is important. But whether al Qaida perceives it that way doesn't matter. And bringing that question into the picture -- thinking of one candidate as "Al Qaida's man" -- tends to stoke the emotional fires rather than logical ones. Think of it this way. You've got two guys playing a chess match -- Player A and Player B. Player A has a superior strategy, and will soon systematically dismantle Player B. Will Player B even necessarily know Player A's strategy? Or, if he did, would he recognize it as superior? If he's not as good a chess player, maybe not. He won't know what hit him. We need to do whatever it takes to counter Al Qaida and the threat of international terrorism. Whether the terrorists will recognize our best strategy when they see it is unknown ... and in any event, irrelevant. Posted by: William Swann at October 29, 2004 10:41 AMI just don't believe Al Queda gives a crap who the President is. They are opposed to our lifestyle and our foriegn policy over the last several decades and administration. Essentially they are for Muslim rule, neither candidate offers that, so why would one mean more than the other. Posted by: IndyPol at October 29, 2004 11:10 AMI don't think Al Qaida gives a crap about our lifestyle. They want us out of Muslim holy places. And they want our influence out of Muslim society. That's their beef. Posted by: carla at October 29, 2004 04:22 PM |
