Which States Are Feeding Well?

So which states get the most federal money per tax dollar gone south? These results from the Tax Foundation may surprise you. Hat tip to FARK.

Let's hear it for constituent service!

I gotta admit Austin seems to be doing fine that way.

This is nothing new, and it's only marginally about Republican control of government resulting in more money for their states.

For one thing it's about federal money spent nationally disproportionally benefitting less populated states. In other words, the same way people in less populated states get an exaggerated say in the Senate because of the "equal representation for each state" idea, they get an overly large piece of the economic pie.

The other reason actually is political... for all their screaming about government waste, Republican members of Congress do a better job than Democrats of pulling pork barrel allocations to their districts. Call it hypocritical if you like (hell, I know I do), but it's nothing new.

What Jeremy said. My only additional note would be that the party in majority will get more goodies to disperse. When the Dems were in majority it went the other way. Just ask the fine concrete providers of West Virginia, aka The Robert Byrd Memorial state.

i speculated as much. I'm just throwing it out there. I figured not everyone knew, and that some understanding of how it happens might be useful.

And when will the Dems start being against spending, too, instead of just wanting more taxes (on the rich!) ?
