A comment to break the ice.

I saw The Bourne Supremacy last week. Mixed feelings, more positive than negative, exciting chases which work for a while, but go on too long and strain credibility.

I thought Kerry's speech was good, at least in the sense that he delivered it with a lot of energy and passion. But it was strange the way the commentators made a big deal of what they called his "muscular centrism." Did they expect him to call for a new New Deal or something?

I thought he left a lot of doors open by his ambiguity, which you would expect in an acceptance speech. For example, he condemned outsourcing, but his proposals aren't likely to do much to stem it. Also, I thought it was sort of strange when he cited a steelworker whose job had gone overseas. These are the same steelworkers whom Bush tried to protect by imposing steel quotas that were ruled illegal by the WTO. Almost everyone agrees that Bush's actions were politically motivated, had no economic logic, and probably cost more jobs than they saved. Is this what Kerry wants to celebrate?

Two words, MWS. Ohio. Pennsylvania.

Hey, so I have a couple of invites for a free gmail account if anyone is interested. It's still in beta but I haven't had any problems and by getting an account now, you have a better chance of getting the email address you want.

First three emailers get them (will at willwagner.com).

"Two words, MWS. Ohio. Pennsylvania."

Understood, Tully. My bad for expecting some consistency during a campaign.

I saw I,Robot last week with my daughters. We loved it. Will Smith continues to impress me with his acting skills. Not bad for a guy who got discovered as a rap artist. I don't know all the details of how he was discovered. But, the guy certainly has upper tier acting skills.

Kevin,

I saw I, Robot too and and enjoyed it. Even in otherwise mediocre action films, Will Smith has a way of turning it in to a fun flick to see. He really comes off as a likeable guy on screen.

I saw "Before Sunset" and loved it. Great date movie, brings up questions about finding one's soul mate. One complaint about your topic - why would anyone want to talk about football? It's still July, and the Red Sox are on their way to their first world championship since 1918!

We're going to see I, Robot tomorrow.

And you might want to talk about football if you lived in Texas...especially if the alternative is baseball. (well, UT Austin has a truly awesome baseball team, but the postseason is over, with UT in 2nd place in the College World Series - there was a big fuss over an inadvertent snubbing of the award ceremony....

Question: Has anyone read "UNvanquished" by Boutros-Ghali and/or "Anti-americanism" by a Frenchman named Jean-Francois Revel? What are your takes about them? The first one dealt with the former Secretary General and the Clinton Admin, the other examines the reactions of his fellow Frenchmen in reference to America post 9-11.
