Oklahoma Delegates

I went onto the convention floor last night, and spoke to a couple people in the Oklahoma delegation. I was hoping to find Brad Carson, who is listed as a delegate. I was told that he was back home, campaigning for US Senate.

Carson is a centrist Democrat, and Republican primary voters have rejected the moderate Mayor of Oklahoma City in favor of Tom Coburn, who has said that doctors who do abortions should be subject to the death penalty. I know who I favor.

I'll hold my nose and vote Carson.

Why do you feel a need to hold your nose? Please explain for those of us who are not that familiar with Carson.

I'm not so sure that it was a vote for Coburn so much as it was a vote against Kirk Humphreys (the mayor).

Coburn was endorsed by the Club for Growth PAC who ran a series of ads defending Coburn. This was in response to Humphrey's attack ads on Coburn. Plus Humphrey's was a big proponent of using tax dollars to lure a Bass Pro Shop to Oklahoma City. Now that may be all fine and dandy, but Tulsa a couple of months ago announced that they too were getting a Bass Pro Shop, without using tax dollars.

Plus one of the other candidates (Bob Anthony) ran a series of attack ads against Humphreys.

So, in essentially a 3 way race, Coburn comes out as the cleanest running candidate with conservative credentials.

Carson has some rather trade protectionist views that may or may not sell well here. I haven't really examined his positions yet and compared them to Coburn.

I'm interested in where the "abortionists deserve death" quote is coming from. That's a fairly radical statement to make.
