June 29, 2004When good is reported as badI think that it is undeniable that the bad news from Iraq gets much more attention than the progress that is being made, but I am resigned to the fact that is how the media is going to report any war regardless of whether the president is a Democrat or a Republican. But rarely have I found a traditional media source that flat out reports good facts as bad facts. Today is an exception. In a front page article reporting on Paul Bremer’s departure, the Washington Post asserts without any backup that “he has left behind . . . a sputtering economy and an appointed government with little popular support." The truth is that Iraq may lead the world in economic growth this year, and a recent poll concluded that a large majority of Iraqis have confidence in the interim government. How does a newspaper like the Washington Post get something so basic so wrong? Posted by Todd Pearson at June 29, 2004 11:40 AMComments
How does a newspaper like the Washington Post get something so basic so wrong? Practice? Posted by: Tully at June 29, 2004 12:54 PMHow does a newspaper like the New York Times have writer's that print fabrications? How does Stephen Glass graduate from Georgetown Law School, pass the bar, get a prestigous clerkship with a DC Judge, and become a high paid New York lawyer? How is Al Gore announced the winner of Florida, than Bush, than nobody, than Bush again? Do you think we have an accountablility problem in the media today?
