June 26, 2004Green Party Snubs NaderThis week, Ralph Nader selected Green Party activist Peter Camejo as his running mate in a transparent attempt to get the Green Party nomination, and the ballot access that would go with that nomination. Today, the Green Party rejected Nader. Good for them. Anyway, I might still vote for Bush, but I wouldn't want him to eke out a victory because of Nader. The country needs either Kerry or Bush to have some semblance of a mandate. Posted by Todd Pearson at June 26, 2004 11:01 PMComments
All the Green Party did this week is make themselves even more insignificant than they already while giving Ralph Nader a lot of press. I think Nader had a good week despite losing the Green Party endorsement. Posted by: Mathew at June 27, 2004 08:21 PMI don't care about the prospects of the green party, so I'm very pleased by this news, and I don't think it's significance has been appreciated. Nader has been poised to be a Kerry spoiler, and these green party actions place a substantial barrier to ballot access for Nader. That's a good thing, IMO, because Nader's ego trip could subvert our election results. Had he gotten the green nom, he'd have gotten auto access to 22 state ballots. That's gone now, and means either getting shut out or mounting state-by-state efforts to get on the ballot. Posted by: bk at June 28, 2004 08:53 AM |
