June 25, 2004Kerry And ReligionLiberal religion reporter Amy Sullivan's access to the Kerry campaign was shut down after she gave a quote to the Washington Times. With the whole communion issue swirling about, Kerry is trying to avoid talking about religion. There is some sense in that, but I think he (or his Veep) needs to be able to talk about ethics and public morality more effectively. Posted by rickheller at June 25, 2004 09:24 AMComments
David Brooks wrote an interesting article on the religion subject yesterday. Brooks notes that a recent Pew survey showed that for every American who thinks politicians should talk less about religion, there are two Americans who believe politicians should talk more. I'm in the minority and therefore I like Kerry's current approach. I definitely like not having religion being used front-and-center by the Kerry campaign as a voter suck-up tool. On the other hand we're not a nation of atheists, and the issues of religious and government interaction are legitimate ones. Ignoring this won't win a majority. A fine line, tough to walk without sounding insincere and pandering. Posted by: Tully at June 26, 2004 11:37 AM |
