Fahrenheit 9/11

I won't pay to see this movie, but I have read some reviews with interest. If you haven't seen them yet, you should read the reviews of Rex Reed and Christopher Hitchens, which differ slightly.

- Reed: "There are multitudes of shattering, seminal moments in his brilliant Bush-whacking documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11, that reveal more about the cynicism, greed and ineptitude in the U.S. government than you will ever learn from any sound bite on the right-wing late-night cable-channel blabfests . . . Mr. Moore, who has tackled corporate greed (Roger & Me) and gun control (Bowling for Columbine), now feels driven and obligated to strip the façade from a swaggering, bow-legged, grammatically challenged bully and a cabinet that is beginning to look more like the Third Reich every day."

- Hitchens: "To describe this film as dishonest and demagogic would almost be to promote those terms to the level of respectability. To describe this film as a piece of crap would be to run the risk of a discourse that would never again rise above the excremental. . . I think we can agree that the film is so flat-out phony that "fact-checking" is beside the point. "

If you want to see it so that you can comment on it based on an actual viewing, but you don't want to give Moore the headcount or the dough, all you have to do is buy a ticket to something else, like dodgeball, and then go to the Moore film. Somewhat subversive, no?

I may do this, as I'm a little bit curious, but if it's as twisted and selective as I expect it to be, Moore doesn't deserve the dough. My sense is that it's mostly just preaching to the converted, high on innuendo and suggestive appearance, and low on any sort of smoking gun info. It's bound to cause a re-hash food fight between the partisans, and frankly, I'm a bit tired of it.

Even if I'm wrong that Moore's film has a really low light-to-heat ratio, I'm pretty sure that ensuing discussions will.

How far into your cheek did you have to put your tongue when typing "differ slightly"? ;)

We're having his cheek stitched, and transfusing him to offset the blood loss....

Thanks to Tully's cool response in a crisis situation, I'm going to be OK.

Moore is the what someone quoted as "a Bush of the left" - a cherry-picker himself
