Bill, will we get our old URL back once the transfer is complete? Posted by: bk at May 18, 2004 09:33 AMYes. We'll have the same URL, and you'll get to the blog and blog admin through the same paths you always used. I noticed that, at least from here at work, the centristcoalition URL still points to the old site. However, when I did a few DNS lookups this morning, it has updated to point to the new servers. So, presumably, that info is propagating through the web now. Posted by: William Swann at May 18, 2004 10:38 AMWoohoo! Posted by: Tully at May 18, 2004 12:28 PMHey ... looks like the old URL is working with the new site -- at least for me. Posted by: William Swann at May 18, 2004 01:06 PMWilliam, The old url just changed over for me as well. Depending on how the DNS servers are setup for individual users, it could take up to 48 hours for it to completely percolate around the internet. Will Posted by: Will at May 18, 2004 01:15 PMThe Centrist Coalition site is clearly running at full speed again. I'm going to have to take a peek at the traffic the first day or two -- there's no guarantee that whatever was eating our bandwidth isn't still sending requests to this URL. It also looks like Centerfield is having a problem finding graphics and background images. That's probably because of some path changes. Either Rick or I can probably tinker with that and get it going. Finally, it looks like our blog entries aren't separated by lines anymore ... another little item we'll work on. Posted by: William Swann at May 18, 2004 01:32 PMHey Will, Maybe I am missing something, but when I click on the link on the Centrist Coalition site or type in www.centristcoalition.com/blog, it still leads me to the old site. Posted by: Mathew Pruitt at May 18, 2004 02:03 PMHi Mathew. That probably means the DNS server at your location hasn't updated yet. It may take a few hours ... or even another day or two. In the meantime, you can post or comment using the temporary address. Posted by: William Swann at May 18, 2004 02:23 PMYeah, the way it all works is that when you type in a domain name (eg www.centerfield.com), your computer asks another computer (the DNS server) what the real IP address (eg xx.xxx.xxx.xxx) is. If that DNS server has run across it "recently", it will give your computer the IP address that it has cached. If not, then the DNS server asks another DNS server for the info. When one changes their web address, it just takes awhile for all the information that was cached on the DNS servers to purge the old stuff and ask for the new stuff.
