April 07, 2004Daschle v. ThunePerhaps the most interesting Senate race this year will be in South Dakota, where former Rep. John Thune is running against Tom Daschle. I find it tough to believe that the voters of South Dakota --a state with only about 750,000 people and which has only one representative in the House -- would voluntarily give up their special clout (and the pork that goes with it), but current polls suggest it is a real possiblity. Who knows? After all, Washington voters threw out Tom Foley in 1994 at a time when he was Speaker of the House. Posted by Todd Pearson at April 7, 2004 09:24 AMComments
Perhaps it is that many voters remember Daschle's Bush bash dujour during 2001. Or maybe its because Tom used to be famous, frequently quoted and interviewed. Now he seems to be barely on the national radar scope. Maybe its because of how mean spirited he was about Bush. Maybe it is because this state is basically conservative unlike the very liberal Mr. Daschle. Posted by: tallan at April 7, 2004 01:22 PM |
