March 30, 2004GOP's Favorite LeftyThere's a highly ironic article in the Village Voice by George Smith, about how year-old piece entitled Richard Clarke's Legacy Of Miscalculation, recently dug up by Drudge, made him an instant hero among Republicans, and an anathema to Democrats, none of whom had ever heard of him before. Turns out Smith is a lefty, criticizing Clarke for being a police state fascist. He's chagrined to now be getting valentines from people he despises, and hate mail from people he agrees with. Politics does indeed make for very strange bedfellows.... Posted by: Tully at March 30, 2004 10:56 PMSaw the original last week, and noted the date on it. Now I've gone back and read Smith's latest from today, now that he's been deluged with mail from True Believers from the extremes. I admire someone who sticks to his oars when the boat starts to leak and the alligators are fighting with the pirhana to get aboard first. "Me 'at's off to the Duke!"
