Rating Ike

There's been a lot of talk about the Clark-Eisenhower analogy in terms of generals running for president. But how good a president was Eisenhower?

Over at Independents For Clark, I argue that he was a good one. He's been underrated, in part, because as a centrist, he has no historical constituency. Liberals don't care for him, because he was a Republican and a moderate. Conservatives ignore him because he was a moderate, and did not try to undo the New Deal.

Isn't it time for centrists to adopt Ike as one of our Ikons?
