April 01, 2003The Press During WartimeInteresting piece in Reason magazine about press coverage of the war. "In time, Arab stations will understand that accuracy is a better magnet [for viewers], and the standards by which Al-Jazeera (and others) are judged inside the Middle East will be raised."Perhaps I'm overly pessimistic, but I sense there's a pretty large audience for news as a "cheerleading" function, or perhaps a "reinforcing of preconcieved views" function. A lot of folks feel more comfortable with news telling them what they already know, as opposed to news that challenges or makes you consider various aspects of an issue. Why think, when you can just know. Right? Posted by Blogadmin at April 1, 2003 02:26 PM Comments
